Funny Prince - Global Game Jam 24 Game
Team Members: Charaf @Charnet3D and Samir @yasuoplay
Background of the idea: Having just finished Alan Wake games I think I can't shake the desire to make something similar, just maybe not as a horror genre.
Description: The game is an action adventure 3d side-scroller with some psychological elements. The story goes like this: a standup comedian seems to have suddenly lost his creative ability when performing one night, so he goes on a quest to regain it. The city he lives in is quite dangerous especially at night, so he has to have good fighting skills to keep up with the "dark side" of the city. After this faithful night where his comedian identity got shaken up, he starts having recurring dreams where he fights for his life (and his creativity) with increasingly weirder abilities, chief among them is making his enemies burst with uncontrollable laughter unable to fight him. After a few dreams he starts to find that these abilities even manifest themselves in real life.
The starting cutscene of the game could go like this:
Jamel Com arrives at the venue, he's welcomed by his friend John Roman (the owner of the Alien-ship club) and goes in to wait in the green room. He hears a guy currently doing a show (the words being muffled and indecipherable), the crowd roaring with laughter, he gets a chill down his spine. What was that feeling ? After a bit his turn arrived. He gets up to get to the stage. the camera stays behind in the green room, showing other comedians pacing around, with feelings of excitement, uneasiness and dread of their coming turn. Others breaking this feeling with banter and nervous laughter. After a few jokes from Jamel, the crowd was still silent, he continues, but still no reaction. Suddenly the audience even starts booing. Jamel couldn't take it, he comes out running in shame and passing through the surprised comedians in the green room and straight into the dark streets outside.
For movement mechanics there's for now jump, double-jump, dash, wall-slide (thanks to a plugin that makes it easier). There's also the possibility of choosing a time of day with proper lighting (could still add street lamps and auto switching On/Off) Working on fighting mechanic for now.
